Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes, you can. However, what we offer is a bespoke, professional package put together by an experienced team. Carefully sewing together your memories in a neat, presentable film with the highest calibre of video, colour and sound quality. We also find that our clients open up much more to a friendly stranger than they do their own family. Please click on the testimonials page for examples.

  • We begin with a list of questions we’ve developed over previous interviews and then customise it to fit your particular story. The ‘pre-interview questionnaire’ helps us tailor your film so it’s unique to you. If there is anything sensitive, we will discuss this before the interview.

  • Alex will conduct the interview (off camera) asking questions in a way that they’re answered fully, so we can edit him out. This can be done with or without others being present. All questions will be asked in a calm and considerate manner and will be discussed beforehand. You can meet Alex by clicking here.

  • When possible and preferable we interview and film at the guest’s home, if that’s where they are most comfortable. We don’t need much space for our equipment, usually, the living room works best. If you’ve chosen the ‘audio only’ package, we can also record in a hospice or care home, if they choose not to be on camera.

  • Sessions generally run anywhere from 2-4 hours. We take breaks as needed and always maintain a relaxed pace. The session length goes hand in hand with the number of questions you’d like asked. Each project is custom-designed, so time varies.

  • Typically, the process spans from the initial consultation through the interview day and into post-production, totalling approximately 1-2 weeks; depending on how quickly you’d like to be interviewed. This collaborative effort typically demands 3-5 full days of dedicated work in post-production for a team of two, where meticulous attention is given to refining your film. Many hours are invested in editing, colour grading, and audio mixing to craft the final film.

  • We seldom have a client who is jumping up and down with excitement about being filmed. It’s natural to feel awkward with something new or different. Luckily, we’re experts when it comes to helping people become comfortable in front of the camera. With a little coaching, they come across in a very natural way.

Often the most nervous people appear best on camera!

  • When interviewing a parent displaying signs of dementia, we think it’s right to approach the process with empathy and understanding. We aim to create a comfortable environment in a quiet, familiar setting to help them feel at ease. We are patient and supportive, offering reassurance and allowing ample time for expression. We use gentle prompts and cues to stimulate their memory if needed, and respect their pace and energy levels by taking breaks as necessary or segmenting the interview into shorter sessions. This approach ensures a supportive and meaningful experience while documenting their life story.
